Knowledge Series: Reimagining District as a Unit for Delivering Healthcare Partner Engagement Consultation on Approaches to Financing

Feb 28, 2023

On the eve of World Health day 2020, India witnessed the coming together of an Alliance for Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC). Swasti, with support from Learning4Impact Program spearheads the Alliance with partner organizations - the Asian Development Bank, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and LGT Venture Philanthropy. The pandemic reinforced the belief that the transition from selective primary care approach to continuum of preventive, promotive, curative, rehabilitative and palliative care approach can no longer wait. The launch of an Alliance for CPHC has been a culmination of an extensive consultative process. Different stakeholders were brought together, and their values were aligned to develop a collective vision. This created the forging of a common and neutral platform for strengthening CPHC work in India. Under the broader umbrella of the CPHC Alliance, a series of consultations have been designed to develop an understanding of integrated district intervention models in health that are implemented by key partners. The consultations aim to shape and co-create an integrated model design through the collective thinking of the Alliance partners, and to identify areas of collaboration. It is expected that this will lead to a Playbook which can be used to create demonstration sites that can be assessed for scalability and relevance across various geographies, positioning the partners as leaders in CPHC, and collectively advocating for its scale-up across the country and the region.
